I have served my home University in multiple roles:
Major Activities
- EECS Department chair. During my tenure (2003-2009), I accomplished the following goals:
- Promoted stature of the department
- Fostered existing and new programs
- Emphasized quality of education
- Initiated and facilitated recruiting
- Nurtured diversity
- Grew and created centers of excellence
- Developed and projected a compelling vision
- In 6 years, recruited 13 diverse faculty members (two senior faculty, one NAE member, and nine junior faculty who were all eventually tenured and received an NSF Faculty Career Award)
- EECS DECADE Mentor (2020-2022): contributed to our diversity mission by serving as the department Diverse Educational Community and Doctoral Experience (DECADE) mentor, and helped improve and advocate for Ph.D. and terminal M.A. program climate, equity, and diversity.
- Academic Planning Group (APG) Work Group - Merits & Promotions in the context of a pandemic (2020-2021)
- Council on Academic Personnel, (2012-2015) - Chair (2014-2015)
Some Other Positions
- Irvine campus representative on the Executive Advisory Committee of the Microelectronics Innovation and Computer Research Opportunities (MICRO) program (2007-2009), a committee tasked with evaluating industry-collaboration proposals from all UC campuses. He chaired the committee from 2008 to 2009.
